The IDW version of CC was a NAIL who was created cold fairly late in the war and never saw combat. Instead, she was a liaison between a neutral scientific research station and a mining colony on the world below it and spent most of her life running reports and various supplies between the two. All the while, she heard about the wonderful world of Cybertron and how good it was going to be when the war was over and they could finally go back. She also heard varying stories about the two primary factions at war with one another, but could never find herself agreeing with one or another as she had, thankfully, never run across either and had no real desire to do so. She wanted adventure, certainly, but not bloody war.
One day, out of the blue, they got the call from Cybertron and CC found herself whisked to a homeworld that she had only heard about in stories. Unfortunately, she arrived with the rest of the wayward Cybertronians to find a primordial Cybertron that was nothing at all like what she'd heard. Not only that, but the other NAILs that had arrived beforehand were already rioting and demanding that both the Autobots and Decepticons leave; accusing both factions of wanting to continue a war that they had never wanted to start with. CC found that rather harsh -- believing that all Cybertronians deserved a home to go to, regardless of their pasts.
When news of the crew call for the Lost Light reached her, she immediately set out to join but was turned away at the front airlock for being a NAIL by Red Alert (not to mention accused of things she had no idea of). Not to be deterred, she stayed nearby until he started arguing with another would-be crewmember trying to board and snuck inside; quickly mingling with those already aboard until takeoff. Needless to say, nobody was happy to find she was with them once the Lost Light was finally 'stabilized' after the sudden jump and subsequent crew loss, but she knew there was little they could do about it short of dumping her on the first world they came to.
She has no idea how close the vote came to doing just that.
